Cubs Fans: It May be This Season Soon Though ...
This 1969 Cubs placemat screams "ironic" with all its might. First of all, it's from IHOP, a place that probably has more diners eating there ironically than any other chain restaurant. Second, it states that "This IS next year" in reference to the Cubs. Turns out it wasn't -- and hasn't been in the ensuing four decades.

Toby Harrah joined the Rangers' television broadcast for the home opener, and he was asked to compare the sold-out atmosphere to the first home opener in Rangers' historyforty years ago.
Here's all you need to know: The attendance was 20,105. It was 5,517 for the next game -- again, that was a team in a major market playing its second home game ever. Remember that for the next time someone mentions something about how baseball is slipping in popularity.

While we were on the Internet making Jamie Moyer jokes, Jason Marquis was at the side of his daughter's hospital bed, not sure if she was going to live.
The story has a happy ending, as Ken Rosenthal writes, but stepping out of a baseball fog for a little perspective isn't a bad idea every now and again. I have a feeling that Marquis is going to be just a little less upset this year when an infielder boots a grounder behind him.
