My prime 9 in 2012:
ReplyDeleteC Carlos Santana: he's just going to get better behind the plate and with the bat. His extra production at the plate more than makes up for Molina's glove.
1B: Miguel Cabrera: with King Albert in year 3 of his gradual decline, the AL batting champ and his 30 HRs are tops. Transfer him from Detroit to Fenway or another hitters park and you'd see monster numbers. Prince a close 2nd.
2B Dustin Pedroia: better glove and 20 steals give him a slight edge over Canoe's slightly better OPS.
3B: Jose Batista: anyone with a OPS of around 1.000 for 2 years in a row gets the benefit of the doubt though Longoria may take over this year.
SS: Troy Tulowitzk. Would like to see him play 162 outside of Denver but stat wise there's nobody close
OF: Jacoby Ellsbury: if he can do it again, he'll be the king
Matt Kemp: puts up big numbers in a good pitchers' ballpark
Mike Stanton: will just get better, especially with a couple more bats around him
DH: Adrian Gonzalez. Got to get him in the lineup somewhere
SP Clayton Kershaw
Justin Verlander
RP: Mariano. Doesn't strike out 12/9 anymore but his ERA and WHIP are still consistently the best. I keep waiting for his reduced velocity to result in higher numbers but it hasn't happened yet.
Great stuff Woody3715! Thank you for sharing your insights. Are there those of you out there who would disagree or concur w/either Woody3715's Prime 9 or w/Cowboy's Prime 9?
